Wanjiku Mugane is the founder of Fedha Connect Limited. The company is involved in raising capital to support agribusiness, real estate, and oil and gas enterprises, in addition to providing mergers and acquisitions advisory services. Mugane is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a Counselor at Law of New York State. She is an investment banker by profession. Mugane graduated from the University of Nairobi with a degree in law and later from Georgetown University USA with ab masters in law as well as various accounting and finance credits.
She is a co-founder of the First Africa Group, a financial advisory company based in Nairobi and established in 1998. The company was later acquired by Standard Chartered Bank in 2009 and renamed Standard Chartered Securities. The subsidiary was, however, shut down in October 2013 in changes that saw operations move to Johannesburg and the exit of Mugane as head of the bank’s businesses in Kenya. She was appointed to serve as a non-executive director on the board of East African Breweries in 2001 until her resignation in 2009, and also in a similar role at Equity Bank, both of which are listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange. She has been a non- executive director of Kenya Airways since December 2014.
Mugane was a member of the Technical Committee tasked with preparing Kenya’s Vision 2030. She was awarded the Moran of the Burning Spear (MBS) in 2003 in recognition of the pioneering role she has played as a woman in enterprise in the capital markets sector. Mugane was also a member of the Capital Markets Master Plan Steering Committee under Vision 2030 that delivered the blueprint for the transformation of Kenya’s capital markets in 2014.
