Emmy Kosgei is a gospel singer, fashion designer and philanthropist.

Due to her Christian upbringing, she started singing in church at a young age and later while in high school, collaborated with other artists including Maximum Melodies.

Her musical influences include Esther Wahome, Rebecca Malope, Keke and the late Miriam Makeba. Kosgei has released five studio albums: Katau Banda, Kaswech, Taunet, Ololo and Sobei Cheiso – mostly sung in her native tongue, Kalenjin. The hit single Taunet Nelel has gained international recognition, making her album Taunet even more successful.

Kosgei is the recipient of a slew of awards, including a Head of State Commendation for her performance of Taunet Nelel at the promulgation of Kenya’s new Constitution in 2010, a Groove award for Female Artist of the Year in 2012 and the Best International Gospel Act award at the UK Black Entertainment, Film, Fashion, Television and Arts awards in 2013.

Kosgei runs her own fashion label, the Emmy K House of Fashion, in addition to her musical career. She promotes her business by wearing her own designs on stage.

She also runs a school, Hope Academy, which helps underprivileged children to develop spiritually and academically.

She is married to Nigerian gospel minister Anselm Madubuko.
