Pamella Makotsi-Sittoni is the immediate former managing editor of The East African, one of the newspapers published by the Nation Media Group (NMG). She was recently promoted to the position of executive editor of Daily Nation in January 2019. She began her career as a reporter with NMG, rising to the position of Chief Sub-Editor of the Daily Nation.
Thereafter, Sittoni-Makotsi joined The Standard Group as Managing Editor of The Standard. She worked as a Communication Specialist with the Kenya office of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), where she was charged with keeping women and children’s issues on the national and global agenda. With the support of the Ford Foundation, Sittoni-Makotsi has edited and published five books focusing on the impact of individuals and organisations through the act of giving.
She is a fellow of the fourth class of the Africa Leadership Initiative in East Africa and a member of Aspen Global Leadership Network. Sittoni-Makotsi has a degree in Literature and Anthropology, a Postgraduate Diploma in Communication from the University of Nairobi and a Master’s degree in New Media, Democracy and Governance from the University of Leicester. In May 2017, she was named the 2017 laureate for Sub-Saharan Africa at Women in News Editorial Leadership Awards.
