Kenya Yearbook Editorial Board (KYEB) CEO Lilian Kimeto has advocated for the ethical use of Artificial intelligence (AI) which is now a daily tool in all sectors of the economy ,I cluding Publishing and which has created efficiency in Public Service delivery.
Ms Kimeto, who was speaking on Wednesday at a panel discussion on digitisation of Public Service during the Inaugural Africa Technology Leadership Conference 2025 in Eldoret, said ethics is very critical so that as AI is used for learning, reasoning , problem-solving and perception, it would enhance its responsible application.
“IT experts need the support of social scientists like Communication Experts for efficient AI use as their training on human behaviour is useful in the human oversight of technology. Knowledge in human Communication can help those developing systems to integrate ethics and weed out challenges such as bias as well as protection of sensitive data and this goes a long way in minimizing risks of unintended consequences while using tech” she observed.
Ms Kimeto called for stronger collaboration between Industry, Investors , Academia and Government adding that “I encourage IT experts to work with social scientists to align AI with human needs because Communication experts have the nuances and context of Human Communication. At Kenya Yearbook Editorial Board, we process vast amounts of data and give it meaning through story telling . AI is a very useful tool for us but our human judgment remains indispensable.”
